Steve Earle was nineteen and had just hitchhiked from San Antonio to Nashville in 1974. Back then if you wanted to be where the best songwriters were you had to be in there. Guy Clark had moved to Nashville and if you were from Texas, Guy Clark was king.
Flash forward more than forty years. In the fall of 2018, Steve and The Dukes went into House Of Blues studio in Nashville and recorded GUY in six days. 'I wanted it to sound live...When you've got a catalog like Guy's and you're only doing sixteen tracks, you know each one is going to be strong.'
Earle and his current, perhaps best-ever Dukes lineup, take on these songs with a spirit of reverent glee and invention. But in the end GUY leads the listener back to its beginning, namely Guy Clark, which is what any good 'tribute' should do. GUY is a saga of friendship, its ups and downs, what endures. We are lucky that Earle remembers and honors these things, because like old friends, GUY is a diamond.
Based in Los Angeles, The Beta Machine’s McJunkins and Friedl are well known for their roles in the rhythm section of A Perfect Circle. The two first rubbed shoulders when they auditioned for Ashes Divide, led by A Perfect Circle’s Billy Howerdel. Recognizing a powerful creative bond that went beyond that band’s ranks, the duo was soon asked to join Puscifer, led by Tool frontman and APC co-founder Maynard James Keenan. Their associations still extend far beyond that cluster of bands: to Filter, Devo, Thirty Seconds to Mars, and Eagles of Death Metal. Friedl and McJunkins would take material incompatible with their other collaborations and stow it away for then-mysterious future use. As the pair continued to work together, the creative energy started flowing freely. The pair put a name to the energetic, futuristic sound they were developing: The Beta Machine. But they wouldn’t be alone in their mission. They had already worked and palled around with vocalist Claire Acey (of Nightmare of the Cat) and guitarist and keyboardist Nicholas Perez, who both gamely stepped up to join them for The Beta Machine’s lineup. The debut album is now available.
Led by vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Jay Farrar, Son Volt became one of the leading bands in the alternative country community, attracting critical praise and an audience that was loyal if not always large. Farrar has collaborated with Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie), Steven Drozd (The Flaming Lips), Jeff Tweedy (Wilco) and several other well respected artists / musicians. Their upcoming album Union will be the bands 10th studio album mixes present and past into strong confluence. The thirteen new songs written by Farrar confront our turbulent politics and articulate the clarity and comfort music can offer in the tumult.
Limited teal-colored vinyl LP pressing. 2019 release. Rattlesnake is the fourth studio album from The Strumbellas, a six-piece collective who rocketed to success with the breakthrough hit "Spirits". For the group, which consists of Simon Ward (lead vocals/guitar), David Ritter (keys), Jeremy Drury (percussion), Isabel Ritchie (strings), Jon Hembrey (guitar) and Darryl James (bass), Rattlesnake marks a stylistic turn from their melancholy, introspective releases. While staying true to their roots, the band has delivered us an album that elicits the feelings of joy and the promise of hope.

With this collection, Lang Lang goes back to his first love - to the pieces that made him want to become a musician in the first place. Rediscovering the most popular and accessible pieces written for learners and lovers of the piano, this album is a journey; of inspiration, of discovery, fantasy and learning. It is a moment for Lang Lang to illuminate these classic pieces as the masterworks they truly are. It is also a reflection on the music that influenced him most during his early childhood, later in life coping with difficult moments, and working with young piano learners around the world. Music can change lives and Piano Book tells this story. "I dedicate this album to my wonderful piano students and all my friends around the world who love the piano as much as I do." Lang Lang

Countless fans worldwide fell head over heels for Ben Platt during his Tony, Grammy and Emmy award winning turn in the title role of Dear Evan Hansen and on-screen in films such as the Pitch Perfect franchise. As the vocalist, actor, and performer sang life into a host of nuanced and fascinating characters, audiences embraced his voice wholeheartedly. By dusting off the piano, picking up a pen, and singing his own truth straight from the heart, he shared another side of himself as a solo artist in early 2019. For the first time, he redirected the empathy that endeared him to millions-on himself.
Signed to Atlantic Records by Chairman and C.E.O. Craig Kallman and President of A&R Pete Ganbarg, he explored his formative influences, ranging from timeless singer-songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and Carole King to legendary crooners like Donny Hathaway, Ray Charles, and Stevie Wonder. As a result, the music delivers confessional lyricism by way of soulful intimacy as part of one cohesive narrative on his 2019 full-length debut, Sing To Me Instead [Atlantic Records]. The 12-track album chronicles the highs and lows of a transformative relationship.
Iconic entertainer and King of Country Music George Strait announces his brand-new album Honky Tonk Time Machine due out Friday, March 29 on MCA Nashville. Comprised of 12 original titles plus Strait s version of the Johnny Paycheck classic Old Violin, Honky Tonk Time Machine marks an incredible 30th career studio album for Strait. Strait, who produced the album alongside Chuck Ainlay, wrote eight of the 13 tracks including Sing One with Willie featuring Willie Nelson that the pair happily debuted at a recent Nashville show marking the first time the two country icons have ever shared the stage. God and Country Music, written by Luke Laird, Barry Dean and Lori McKenna, introduces a very special vocal guest, Strait s grandson, Harvey Strait. I m really excited to have some new music coming out, shares Strait. It s been about two years since I ve released a record. It was great writing with Bubba and Dean again and creating such a beautiful song with Bubba and Jeff Hyde. Also, it was a very special thing for me to be able to write and sing one with the legend Willie Nelson. I hope everyone enjoys listening to Honky Tonk Time Machine as much as I enjoyed making it.

Emboldened by a sold-out tour and a surge of interest in the States after the release of the documentary Revenge of The Mekons, Mekons retreated to the fringes of Joshua Tree National Park and popular culture to record their new album Deserted. The long-running, genre-hopping, impossible-to-kill British folk-punk collective summoned the forces of magic, fear and superstition for an album of shifting sand Sturm und Drang. It is at once a distorted howl into the emptiness of space as well as a quiet submission to the shimmering allure of a mirage. The heat and endless horizon can lead to madness or clarity, and while there is relief when the sun goes down you know the deep chill is not far off.
As one third of the internationally known hip-hop group, Migos, Offset, launches his first solo album, “FATHER OF 4”. His collaborative project with 21 Savage and Metro Boomin, “Without Warning”, peaked at No.4 on the Billboard 200 in 2017. The last Migos album, “Culture II” debuted at #1 on Billboard 200.
''For The Many'' is the Birmingham reggae veterans' nineteenth studio album - their first since 2013's Getting Over The Storm Features UB40's founding members Robin Campbell (co-vocals/Guitar), Brian Travers (saxophone/keyboards), Jimmy Brown (drums), Earl Falconer (bass/keyboards/vocals) and Norman Hassan (percussion/vocals), alongside long-time members Duncan Campbell (vocals), Martin Meredith (saxophone), Laurence Parry (trumpet) and Tony Mullings (keyboards). Includes guest appearances from Birmingham rapper Gilly G, who features on the video Moonlight Lover and Jamaican artist/producer Kabaka Pyramid on Broken Man. UB40 are reunited with reggae deejays/artists Pablo Rider on I'm Alright Jack and Slinger on Gravy Train, both of whom appeared on the band's 1985 album Baggariddim. The album's closing track All We Do Is Cry sees the band collaborate again with British Asian urban musician Hunterz, who previously co-wrote and sang on UB40's single 'Reasons' from the 2005 album Who You Fighting For. In the same year, Hunterz performed the single on stage with UB40 and The Dhol Blasters at the Live 8 concert held in Hyde Park. Formed in Birmingham in 1978, UB40 named themselves after the UK government's unemployment benefit form. Their debut album Signing Off was released in August 1980 and is considered by many to be one of the greatest reggae albums ever released by a British band. It was the start of a career that led to 100 million record sales worldwide and dozens of hits, including Red, Red Wine, I Got You Babe and (I Can't Help) Falling in Love with You which all topped the charts across the world. The band had a run of hit albums that have spent a combined period of eleven years in the UK's Top 75 album chart, establishing UB40 as one of Britain's most successful bands of all-time.
EVEN IN THE HIGHLY ADRENALINE-FUELLED MUSIC BUSINESS, IT’S RARE TO FIND A BUNDLE OF ENERGY ON A PAR WITH SUZI QUATRO. The American rock vocalist has successfully worked as a musician for more than fifty years, delivering with unbridled energy her greatest hits such as ‘Can The Can’, ‘48 Crash’, ‘Devil Gate Drive’, ‘If You Can`t Give Me Love’, ‘She`s In Love With You’ or ‘Stumblin In‘ which made her an icon in the 1970s, and wowing her fans again and again with her new material. So it comes as no surprise that she’s not thinking of retiring. “I’ll retire when I go onstage, shake my ass, and there is silence,” she says, fully aware of the fact that that moment is still a long way off. 29 March 2019 will see the arrival of Suzi’s latest studio album, simply entitled No Control in line with her need for artistic freedom, on SPV/Steamhammer. Almost simultaneously, the singer/musician is set to embark on an extensive World tour. No doubt about it: 2019 will be another Suzi year!
To describe the last two years as a whirlwind for Brutus is something of an understatement. 2017 saw the release of their debut album, 'Burst', which set them on a path of, award nominations and album of the year accolades. Having toured with Sargent House label mates Chelsea Wolfe and Russian Circles, Brutus also hit the road as main support to Thrice through Europe. Taking time out from the live circuit, the trio headed to Vancouver to record their second album, once again returning to Jesse Gander (Japandroids, White Lung, Baptists) at his Rain City Recordings studio in September 2018. The resulting 11 tracks throw a net over post-rock, hardcore, metal and pop, gathering defining facets of each to form the unique sound of Brutus new album 'Nest'
Newly signed masked independent powerhouses Alla Xul Elu shocked the underground with the success of their release The Almighty on CD and digital platforms. Majik Ninja Entertainment has decided to release this album to the world in the form of a double LP. There are three color variants that will be shipped randomly: Transparent (red with yellow,) Side A/Side B Effect (red/yellow,) and another Side A/Side B Effect (red/opaque black). This title is limited to 500 units.
This band is so nocturnal and evil, so badass still unique, long story short: They are completely Out Of Line. This part is official from now on, and the debut album Procreation is a start that is really worth it. Bands such as Behemoth, Morbid Angel, Melechesh, Black Daliah Murder, Nevermore, Gojira, Death, Mayhem or Deströyer666 are part of a sound hard to categorize stylistically combining weird harmonics with thundershot riffs and hard-hitting riffs, always lead by the rabid screams of front woman Marika Hyldmar. The songs crawl out of the boxes relentlessly linking the abyss of Death Metal with the wickedness of Black Steel ruptured again and again by grooves and chords of the new Prog generation. It is this what gives the music this unbelievably mad but the more delightful note.
This album is for those who are no longer with us. It is about coping with the loss of friends, family, and mentors, while building a new community in their wake. “When I meet someone that's good I want to die with them, dead friends I still want to say good bye to them.” In the midst of losing friends we strive to created a stronger community, dedicated to fight, survive, and thrive in their memory and spirit. A lot of people have said to us this is a perfect time to make a Punk record. We are disgusted by this prompt. This album and our music does not belong to a political party. No authority, political movement, or side may claim the function of our music in this society. This album is personal. It is about and for the disenfranchised youth of this city, of this country, and of this earth. It is for our community and anyone who may find shelter within it.
Magic Circle's self-titled debut hit the true doom scene like a revelation in 2013. Without hype or hyperbole the band effortlessly invoked fundamental rock 'n' roll truths putting their own stamp on early heavy metal darkness. Joining 20 Buck Spin for follow-up Journey Blind, the band again offered that unmistakable classic sound with natural unforced evolution. On their third album, Departed Souls, they present an expansive hard rock vision, adorning their signature doom with seamless psych and prog ornamentation. This latest album reveals a Magic Circle delving more deeply into '70s sounds, expanding farther outward from the primordial Iommic matter of their birth. Heavy Sabbathian riffs abound, but they open up, stretch out, and expose different shades that recall the moody peaks and valleys of the classic hard rock albums of that era. Acoustic 12-string, tablas and Fender Rhodes appear in lush moments of kaleidoscopic decadence woven into the fabric of the pounding elemental thunder. All the while vocalist Brendan Radigan seals the deal as one of the premier heavy metal singers of the 21st century, deliverin' that Wagnerian dynamism and vigor that screams from the heavens and becomes thoroughly controlled in moments of quiet solemnity. Though all members are busy with other projects and other lives, when these five come together in the Magic Circle, the chemistry and palpable rock 'n' roll exhilaration reminds one that this band ain't never gonna die with the herd.
CHAI is an adventure where all-things are Pink, a sound that fuses the likings of Basement Jaxx, CSS, and Tom Tom Club, lyrics catered to self-empowerment and re-defining the definition of kawaii or cute, and indescribably fun visuals thatll surelyabsorb you whole! The 4-piece band from Nagoya, Japan consists of identical twins MANA (voc/keys), KANA (gt/cho), YUUKI (ba/cho), and YUNA (dr/cho) bound together in 2015. CHAIs concept of NEOkawaii or new cute derived from personal experiences where they simply did not fit into societys standard of cute. This concept has drawn in audiences world-wide and can be best described in their hit single, N.E.O., from their 1 st album PINK.This adventure would lead them to US indie label Burger Records who released PINK in February 2018 followed by their We Are CHAI Tour, their first US tour with performances throughout California as well as several stages at SXSW.
In May 2018, Nickodemus accepted an invitation from Hape Collective to travel to N'Djamena to teach a group of young adults DJ'ing and electronic music production, which resulted in the encounter between a group of talented artists from Cameroon, Chad, Congo and Togo. After a weeklong series of listening to original songs & demos, the recordings continued in a pop-up studio created by DJ Buosis & Nickodemus which culminated in Desert To Douala, an album featuring 11 songs, all originally written and recorded in N’Djamena. Recorded & mixed by Dj Buosis & Nickodemus.
• Texas music legends. • Remastered reissue features eleven previously unissued bonus tracks. • New liner notes include a history of all the 1970s reissues and their variations. “Walter Hyatt, David Ball and Champ Hood have been an inspiration to me ever since the first time I heard Uncle Walt’s Band,” said Lyle Lovett, a journalism student at Texas A&M University when he first heard the band. “Musically, their finely crafted original compositions reflect diverse influences, while lyrically they demonstrate a sensitive, sophisticated understanding of the dignified South.” Uncle Walt’s Band, from Spartanburg, South Carolina, was an eclectic music trio that moved to Nashville in 1972 and shortly thereafter, to Austin at the urging of Willis Alan Ramsey. An attempt at an album with Ramsey at the helm was unsuccessful, so the band headed back to Spartanburg in 1974 to produce their own debut LP, Blame It On The Bossa Nova. One thousand copies of the original self-released vinyl were pressed, sold through performances and self-promotion, disappeared quickly. Heat was gaining for the band, so they headed back down to Austin with a reissued album now titled, Uncle Walt’s Band. (Original pressings of Blame It On The Bossa Nova change hands for hundreds of dollars these days). While the album gained many fans and followers, it wasn’t enough to sustain the band’s larger ambitions. After a hiatus a second album, An American In Texas was released in 1980 followed by a live album, Recorded Live in 1982. (a cassette-only release of studio sessions, 6-26-79 was also released along the way). Gaining the love of Texas music fans, performing regularly throughout the state, yet unable to get traction nationally, they called it quits in 1983. Although remaining friends and working on various projects over the years, each went on to pursue solo music careers. Hyatt release several albums, plus performed on Austin City Limits. Hood became a Texas Music Hall of Fame sideman playing for artists like Lyle Lovett, Jerry Jeff Walker and more, and Ball’s success with the hit, “Thinkin’ Problem” established him as a Country music star. Following the first-ever, career-spanning Anthology: Those Boys From Carolina, They Sure Enough Could Sing, Omnivore is now proud to present a deluxe reissue of the original Uncle Walt’s Band album, expanded with eleven bonus tracks and remastered. New liner notes include a history of each re-pressing of this private press classic (reissued no less than six times with different covers and sequence variations back in the ’70s)! If you were one of the lucky owners of an original that you’ve worn out across the years, here’s your chance to retire that well-loved copy and double the fun discovering the new bonus tracks. For the rest of us, it’s the opportunity to own the classic!
Nashville s Free Throw return with the new full length What's Past Is Prologue. It's the follow up to the critically-acclaimed sophomore LP Bear Your Mind. Fader proclaimed 'Free Throw do emo right, pure feeling and no whining.' and The A.V. Club called it 'pop-punk drenched in throat-shredding emotion with a side of shimmery, arpeggiated guitar' The band spent most of the last year touring and sharing stages with Trophy Eyes, Real Friends, Pet Symmetry, Boston Manor and more. The band will start 2019 off by Supporting The Wonder Years throughout Europe and will be hitting the road in the states with label mates Tiny Moving Parts right after the release of the new record
The second album in less than a year from those lovable New Jersey moptops with the sweet twin guitars, 'Natural Facts' provides a portal to the carefree place that both indie rock and jam bands forgot. Bolstering the summer glow of 2018s 'Cosmic Cash' with flashes of fuzz, teeth and power, 'Natural Facts' is the more driving counterpart to its rural predecessor. Danny Arakaki & Tom Malachs guitars remain at centerstage on machine gun shreds like the album-opening Feel So Great & the rolling grooves like High Noon Violence (which would fit right in with one of David Crosbys early 70s supergroups). Tracked in Philly with Jeff Zeigler, 'Natural Facts' is a newly emerging conversation, songs & structures drawing from the most right-on musicians to cross Garcia Peeps collective transom. Classic rock guitarists of yore might be obvious touchstones but bend your ear and newer colors emerge, generated from hours & years of talk & music. Nothing inorganic here, just pure Natural Facts
