The Coalition of Independent Record Stores and Darkside Records present your chance to win a copy of The Beatles 'White Album' on vinyl autographed by Prudence Farrow Bruns (of the Beatles song “Dear Prudence”) with all proceeds going to raise money for victims of Hurricane Michael. Winners will be chosen Dec 24th and tickets are available now at 611 Dutchess Tpk in Poughkeepsie NY.
When Hurricane Michael hit the Florida panhandle earlier this year it was the 3rd-most intense Atlantic hurricane to make landfall in the contiguous US and the strongest storm on record in the Florida Panhandle, causing an estimated $15 billion in Damage. Even as a month has already passed, there are thousands of families that are homeless, displaced, in shelters & pop up tent cities. So many families have lost everything & are just trying to find their way.
“Hurricane Michael has brought out the best in our community” says Tom at Central Square Records, a participating Independent Record Store located in Florida. “Local individuals, organizations and schools have all stepped up to help our neighbors to the east. From handing out hot meals & bag lunches, chain sawing trees, tarping roofs, providing free medical care, new school supplies & clothing to the kids, there is such a need for help.”
The story goes that when the Beatles went to India to learn Transcendental Meditation from the Maharishi, Mia Farrow was hanging out with John at the time. Prudence Farrow Bruns tagged along and was so taken with TM, she would stay in her little bungalow and meditate for hours. One morning, Paul and John serenaded her outside her window with a little made-up tune: "Dear Prudence... won't you come out and play." The rest is history. Today, Prudence is a Florida local and longtime supporter of independent music shops who has signed 45 copies of the new vinyl reissue of the Beatles’ “White Album” which are being raffled off at participating record shops, including Darkside Records in Poughkeepsie to raise money to be split between two FL local organizations, the Sonder Project and Point Washington Medical Clinic.

The Sonder Project: The Sonder Project began as a group of volunteers who share a desire to strengthen not only their local communities, but communities across the world. Immediately following the storm, volunteers from The Sonder Project traveled to the impact areas to see if they could provide assistance. What began as an organic desire to assist our neighbors has since evolved into a highly organized daily operation to send volunteers and supplies street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood, with direction and support from local and emergency management officials.
